Weekly Menu for June 4th thru July 9th

Happy 4th of July!
I’m baaacckkkk!.  I missed you and am hopeful that you missed me, you did miss me right?  I’m so excited to share the latest news regarding the changes that are taking place on the site, my mind has been spinning with ideas and I’m hopeful that those ideas will make it to the site soon.  I’m also equally excited to share this weeks menu with you especially since my return back includes the 4th of July, Happy Birthday America!    I love the 4th of July, for us, it’s usually a day to kick back enjoying the company of family and friends, amazing food and spectacular sky views once the sun has set. The 4th also seems to mark that summer has arrived and is in full swing, most of us have started to settle into our daily routine now that the kids are home all day, and before I moved to Florida it was a time to cram in all the summer activities I could.  Because of all those summer activities, the last thing I want to do is spend hours in the kitchen cooking elaborate meals, I want food that is easy to make, tastes great and doesn’t take too much time to prepare, plus if it can be made on the grill, it’s even better.  This weeks menu is exactly that, we will start off with my 4th of July menu, and then 5 easy and tasty meals will follow along with that grocery list that was M.I.A. for such a long time.
If you have logged on lately I’m sure that you have noticed some changes and I’m excited to share them with you.  Although, lately it’s felt like road construction; there are the delays, the annoying orange barrels and the anxiousness that it should be done already!  Each day I’m hoping that my construction of the site will come to an end and that it will be like a nice Sunday drive down a newly paved road.  It will get there soon, but in the meantime please hang with me.  During the past few months I have met some very talented women, these women blog, cook, create beautiful items and the list seems to be endless.  My plan is to feature a new site each week and to organize all the blogs that are listed (and those that still need to be listed) by their different genre.  I’ve also created a Facebook page and a Twitter account for the site and once I’m finished setting them up, I’ll send out an email asking you to be a friend and a follower!  Now the BIG news... Giveaways!  Yep, I’m working on what I hope will be the start of many giveaways and sometime, oh so very soon, my first giveaway will be set into motion and this first one will include two of my favorite words, Williams - Sonoma!  Now, let’s get to some food....

A few reminders for the newbies; you can click the title of any recipe to access it and if you are interested in a blank grocery list sheet formatted for Excel, send me an email and I’ll send one off to you, this sheet is such a time saver at the grocery store!  As always you can email me at mydinnerplaybook@aol.com with any suggestions, recipe ideas or blog tips!

4th of July Meal
Hot Potato Salad
“You can never go wrong with a burger” as quoted by my husband and I agree wholeheartedly.  When I come up with a new burger idea my family gets excited and this one is no exception.  The combination of sun dried tomatoes and blue cheese on top of a grilled burger creates flavor fireworks in your mouth.
Tired of the same ol’ potato salad, this one is sure to please and am sure that potato salad will start showing up as a side dish around your dinner table and not just the salad you make for a BBQ.
Love s’mores, but hate the hassle of making the fire, finding just the right stick to use for your marshmallow, burning that marshmallow along with your finger when you try to remove it from that stick and then dropping it onto the floor, only to have to start all over, because the 5 second rule just apply when it’s been dropped into dirt?  My S’more brownies are the cure, you will be able to kick back and enjoy them with no mess or injury!
Quick Meal 1
I love lasagna and to this day I have been unable to find that perfect recipe. The lasagna recipes I’ve tried tend to either come out too runny or too dry regardless of the method or the ingredients and until I find that perfect I find or create recipes that have the flavors within them.  This recipe has the flavors and was very quick to knock out, I’m sure you’ll will enjoy it.

Quick Meal 2
If your a fan of a barbeque flavor this meal is for you; the barbeque flavor is front and center.  While I made this dish according to the recipe I will add a veggie such as broccoli or peas to it next time.

Got Some Time - Meal 1
If you love bacon then you probably love making BLT sandwiches, I love bacon but for always feel that the BLT needed the company of avocado and cheddar cheese!

Got Some Time Meal - 2
Chicken for dinner is such a staple in most households that it seems we are always looking for new ways to dress this protein up and this dish is ready for a wonderful summer occasion.
Got Some Time Meal - 3
I tend to laugh at commercials from the fast-food taco place when they are advertising a new burrito or taco, they make it seem like it’s the new “it” food and something totally new and unheard of; when in fact regardless of the ingredients or new name they are both still just a burrito and a taco!  I’m not claiming to have created a new tostada, but I am here to tell you that tostada does rock and I’m sure you will prefer it over a plain ol’ regular tostada.

Red, White and Blue Burgers

Recipe Courtesy of Jo Davison
Serves 6
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lbs ground beef chuck
Salt and Pepper
1 tbls. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes, drained and diced
1 tub of crumbled blue cheese
6 hamburger buns, toasted
Lettuce for garnish
Mayo
Heat your outdoor grill on a med-high heat.  In a bowl combine beef, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper.  Create 6 equal patties.

Grill each burger until cooked thru, turning only once during the cooking process.   While burgers are cooking combine the sun-dried tomatoes and blue cheese.  When burgers are cooked thru, turn off grill, add buns to the grill and top each burger with the cheese mixture and close grill lid allowing the cheese to melt.  Assemble burgers and enjoy.

Weekly Menu for May 17th thru May 22nd

Running, running, running...whew!  While I’d like to say that the running I've been doing is the type to help me stay in shape, I’m afraid it’s the type that has me running around like a chicken without a head!  I’m sorry for the delay in posting but I wanted to make sure that I finished my two submissions for the Real Women of Philadelphia site.  Of course the hope is to actually be chosen as a finalist, but I have to say I was filled with so much excitement to share the recipe I came up with this week!  Now, I’m not sure everyone will share in this excitement but I know that the folks back in New Mexico, California, Arizona and Texas are going to be saying yuuummmmm, in unison!  You see I came up with a new burger recipe..... Smothered Green Chile Queso Burgers!  OMG (as my daughter would say) these burgers ROCKED!  Now if your a fan of green chile and oozing cheese, you will love this recipe.
This week I will be continuing to feature recipes from the amazing women on the Real Women of Philadelphia (RWoP) site.  In fact I think that unless I come up with a new recipe to share with you, I will be featuring their work weekly.  Like I mentioned last week, I had no idea how hard it was going to be to choose so I started with those on my friend page, these women rock!  Even though I will be able to feature their recipes for a long time to come I encourage you check out the site.  www.realwomenofphiladelphia.com  This week as usual I searched for recipes that would fit into my categories along with different proteins and cuisines, and after many hours I think you will enjoy what I came up with.  Don’t forget to head over to the page that features the great blogs that the RWoP have.  I have 15 more to add this week!   Also I'd be thrilled if you sign up as a follower, by doing so you will show up in the “really cool people” slot.  Thanks for sending this blog off to family, friends and strangers and as always have a fabulous day!

Quick Meal 1
By Jo
I was reminded of a funny story when I started to recreate my stroganoff recipe and I think you will be amused and after your done laughing make sure and whip up this quick and easy meal.

Quick Meal 2
by Susan West
“This is a one pot casserole that has everything in it” according to Susan.  A very easy and really, really good meal.  The kids are going to love it.
Got Some Time - Meal 1
by Paula Todora
Talk about a mothers love.  When Paula’s son moved back to Texas from California he couldn’t find a place to buy the fish tacos he loved so much, so it was Mom to the rescue!  Not only were they spot on, but I’m told they are so good that if there are any left they eat them for breakfast!

Got Some Time Meal - 2
by Tresa Hargrove
Tresa is one tuff cookie!  She has endured so many operations and is on her second kidney.  To look at her and see the joy the radiates out of her, you would never think all the above happened.  Tresa created this recipe when she was all of 12 years old, wow and it is a perfect entree for children who would rather not eat their veggies.
Got Some Time Meal - 3
by Debi Wood aka Nana
Now Nana has to be the one gal on RWoP that keeps you in stitches as all times!  She is an amazing cheerleader and one Nana I would love to call my own, I just love what this lady has brought to the RWoP site.  Make sure and check out more than this one recipe out, she is hilarious!  I’m also told that she now has the blogging bug so I’ll make sure and link her site from mine once I find out the details.
Pass the Wine; I got all the time - Meal 1

Drum roll please.... here is the recipe for those ROCKING burgers!  Like I said before if your a fan of messy burgers that are loaded with flavor, these are the burgers for you!  You will not be disappointed!  YUM!

Weekly Menu for April 19th thru April 24th

Whew, what a week! Do you find yourself seemingly busier now that spring has sprung?  Now that the days are longer I find I that I try not to waste a moment of daylight and cram as much as possible into that day.  This week seemed no different and yet will not stop until late Sunday night.  This is also the reason why this weeks blog will be posted late today, sorry.  Although, I must say that because of the type A personality I seem to possess I'm happy when I have a week where multiple tasks and activities are completed and enjoyed.  Weird, I know, but I really think that staying busy is my drug!
My in-laws are in town this week and we’ve had the opportunity to explore places in our community that we had not yet been able to, we had a wonderful day at the beach that allowed for a great day of peace and relaxation from the never ending to-do list,  filming for my recipe submission for the Real Women of Philadelphia contest ended up being a family affair and the weekend is spoken for with our daughters cheer competition.  Happily I have to say that regardless of the hectic week, it was a week filled with great conversation, much love and good food (thanks to my family for eating all the food I keep making for the contest) and we will be sad when the week is over.  I have also found that I can agree with many when they say sleep can be very overrated when one is having so much fun!
Speaking of good food, I do have a week full of new recipes for you that I think your going to enjoy; and I’ve also included this weeks video for my Jalapeno Popper Burgers that I entered as my entree submission and I think it will make a great dinner option for you this week.  Next weeks submission will be desert, and the family seems very happy that there will be much cake to eat!  Well, my friends my hope is that whether your week is busy or mellow, it will be filled with great conversation, much love and good food.  As always, have a fabulous week!
A few reminders for the newbies; you can click the title of any recipe to access it and if you are interested in a blank grocery list sheet formatted for Excel, send me an email and I’ll send one off to you.  This sheet saves you time in the grocery store. Quick Meal 1
It looks like Rachael Ray did it once again and created a meal full of flavor without killing the budget.  The combination of all the ingredients come together so well that you don’t feel like your eating a budget friendly meal.

Quick Meal 2
You guessed it, it’s time to have incorporate some fish into the menu.  This recipe has a lot going on in it and since tilapia is fairly mild, those of us that do not automatically choose fish as an option will enjoy this dish.
Got Some Time - Meal 1
As a wise man once said, “You can never go wrong with a burger”; the wise man being my husband loves burgers, in fact we all do and I have to say we ate these burgers twice this week; since the first round of filming didn’t turn out so well and both times were equally delicious.  Yum!  Check out my video here.
Got Some Time Meal - 2
Fettuccine and Pancetta, need I say more?  I love Fettuccine and when my copy of Bon Appetit showed up in the mail this week the picture automatically made me want to make this dish, agreeing with those who say we eat with our eyes first.
Got Some Time Meal - 3
Now when I saw that this recipe takes 40 minutes I wasn’t sure why since I seem to get my Ham, Apple and Brie Paninis made in 25 or so and then figured out it’s the caramelized onions.  But since I’m a lover of all cheese and caramelized onions this one was worth the extra time.
Pass the Wine; I got all the time - Meal 1
May’s issue of Food Network Magazine had a challenge to create a recipe using potato chips and this recipe seemed to work for a weekend dinner with a twist, plus don’t we all have a bunch of bags of chips that have nothing but crumbs at the bottom?

Weekly Menu for April 12th thru April 17th

TGIF!  I’m not sure how your week was but mine was busy, and in all honesty I can’t believe it is Friday already; I feel like I have been running at a frantic pace all week.  If you read last weeks blog you know that I decided to enter the Real Women of Philadelphia Challenge and while I came up with an amazing appetizer the work required to get it submitted was a lot of work!  I have to say creating the recipe was by far the easiest part,  having to film my recipe, edit it and then upload it was crazy!  After submitting my recipe I came to the conclusion that:

One - I see the importance of a great space when filming, my kitchen was not exactly the ideal place.
Two - It would have been so much easier if there was an actual camera person filming.
Three - Editing takes forever!
Four - I so need some acting classes!!!!

Now I’m going to post my video for your amusement, perhaps it will make you laugh, actually I’m sure it will and hopefully it will make your Friday go by a lot quicker!  Bottom line, I encourage you to make my Heavenly Little Puffs of Flavor you are going to love them!  The family has already asked for them twice!
Looking at so many submissions for appetizers at the Real Women of Philadelphia Challenge website I was so impressed with all the good cooks out there and it got me thinking; I want to feature others in this weeks recipes.  Now the submissions for entrees will not start posting until Monday so to have meals for you this week I searched blogs from The Foodie BlogRoll.  I think you’ll not only enjoy their recipes but I think you will be impressed with their blogs I know I was.
I chose four recipes from the blogs at The Foodie BlogRoll, one from Ms. Paula Deen to honor her for roll in the Real Women of Philadelphia Challenge and one of my originals.  I hope you enjoy each of them, and as always, have a fabulous week!
A few reminders for the newbies; you can click the title of any recipe to access it and if you are interested in a blank grocery list sheet formatted for Excel, send me an email and I’ll send one off to you.  This sheet saves you lots of time in the grocery store. Quick Meal 1

As you know, I love Panini’s and it has been a while since I made these ones. Spring is in full bloom here and this sandwich along with a fresh salad seems like a perfect dinner to enjoy outside in the lanai.
Quick Meal 2

Speaking of spring, when you take a look at this recipe from the blog My Kitchen Cafe, you are going to agree.  I love tuna and while I make a Tuna Noodle Casserole that I’m fairly fond of when I’m in the mood for Tuna, my dish screams more fall and winter and this version looks fresh, light and spring like.

Got Some Time - Meal 1

I haven’t really experimented with Thai food all that much but was looking for another way to use an inexpensive cut of beef.  I came across this recipe at the For the Love of Cooking Blog and I think the author nailed it.

Got Some Time Meal - 2

Okay, I have to admit that when I stumbled upon this blog the picture of the lady shopping in high heals got my attention, one, because I’m such a girly girl and two I have had to run to the store after being dressed up and in 5 inch heels and people look at you like they are wondering if you truly do your grocery shopping in heels!  The expressions on their faces are priceless and I look at them with a look that says - yes I do and I keep them on when I vacuum too!  Ha ha! The author of the Picky-Palate blog created this recipe and it ended up being a hit despite it’s name.
Got Some Time Meal - 3

I love this blog!  Poor Girl Eats Well shows us that we can always have flavorful food without breaking the pocket book.  This dish got my attention once I saw the words feta and stuffed!  Yum!

Pass the Wine; I got all the time - Meal 1

I love Paula Deen and you know that when it comes to seafood you can turn to her to make a great dish.  Since we haven’t had seafood in a while salmon burgers seemed like the perfect dish to enjoy a great spring day!

Weekly Menu for March 29th thru April 3rd - Spring Break Fare

Woo whoo!  Party Time! Today at 3:00 p.m. it will officially be spring break! Now I’m not sure if spring break has passed already, or if yours is just around the corner, or if spring break even applies to you, but if it does I’m sure you are probably thinking; party? are you kidding me, I will have the kids home aaaaallllll day long!  I on the other hand am so okay with this.  Why you ask?  Let me count the ways....
1. I do not have to set the alarm clock or get out of bed early, which means the true night owl in me can stay up past 11:30!
2.  I do not have to deal with homework or monitoring of the kids school activities.
3.  All practices for my kids sports are canceled and most importantly...
4.  We get ten whole days to play!  Since we recently moved to Florida I want to see what is in our own back yard per say.  Beach days, movies, the kids museum and site seeing are on the docket so far. Plus it’s Easter weekend, one of the most special holidays in my book! Such fun awaits!
Since this surge of let’s get out and play is stirring in me, I know that this week I will need some easy meals that can be thrown together quickly.  Even though this weeks meals fit the above bill we will not be compromising  on proteins or flavors and dinner will be just as enjoyable as all the activities you may have planned.  If you don’t get to have fun this upcoming week, I’m truly sorry (solemn music playing) but there is a bright side; dinner will be done in no time this week and you will be able to kick back and possibly enjoy some “me” time after dinner.  Plenty of time to rest so that you’ll be ready to celebrate the Easter weekend with family and friends.
I have another reason for celebrating today; my blog is officially three months old and I succeeded in not posting the same recipe twice!  You will now find 80 recipes within this blog!  I’m so thrilled about this and I would like to thank each of you for sticking with me and spreading the word of my blog around.
A few reminders for the newbies; you can click the title of any recipe to access it and if you are interested in a blank grocery list sheet formatted for Excel, send me an email and I’ll send one off to you.  This sheet saves you lots of time in the grocery store. As always you can email me at mydinnerplaybook@aol.com with any suggestions, recipe ideas or blog tips!  Don’t forget to sign up as a follower, by doing so you will show up in the “really cool people” slot.  Thanks for sending this blog off to family, friends and strangers!  As always, have a fabulous week!

Quick Meal 1
This happens to be one of the most versatile meals I have in my repertoire. While at my last Bunco/Girls Night Out parties I took these and then was asked why the recipe wasn’t on my blog and if I would post it.  Since I normally make these as an appetizer, beach fare or lunch, posting it as a dinner option for you hadn’t crossed my mind.  While I’m planning to make this meal for my beach day I would suggest that for dinner you forgo the bread cups and use a croissant instead, and I’d throw together a salad to accompany it.  If you are going to contribute a meal for Easter, volunteer to bring the appetizer, it won’t take you much time and everyone will be impressed.
Quick Meal 2
What an easy and tasty recipe.  This recipe is so fast that it may take longer to warm up garlic bread!  Note: This recipe was created as a two serving recipe, I doubled it and listed the ingredients as such in the grocery list.

Got Some Time - Meal 1
I love Panini’s.  They are easy and if you think about it, any combo you throw between two slices of bread and cheese is amazing!  This recipe had enough substance in it that I felt we only needed a salad to go with it.
Got Some Time Meal - 2
Burgers, I love them, and as my husband always states “you can never go wrong with a burger.’’ As much as we both love burgers I do believe that Rachael Ray has us both beat, her love affair with them runs deep as she has so many burger recipes.  In her latest Everyday magazine she created a Hot Wing Burger named for her favorite hockey team, while I’m a huge hockey fan, Go AVS, I was intrigued by the fact that these burgers were made with ground turkey.  Since this is such a budget friendly protein I thought I’d give it a whirl.  They were great an a huge hit with the whole family.

Got Some Time Meal - 3
Thanks to my slow cooker, stripped beef tacos are always a very easy choice.  I throw a roast in the slow cooker in the morning and when I get home at the end of the day I just have to throw a few items together for a great meal.  I’ve added watermelon salsa to create a meal more in tune with the spring feeling.  Also, this go around I’m going to use small flour tortillas instead of corn to save time, no frying of the corn tortillas. I just have to throw the flour ones in the microwave to warm.

Pass the Wine; I got all the time - Meal 1
This recipe won’t really take all your time but it may take just a bit longer than the other five. Overall I think that this is a good take on a rib and potato dinner and feels like an official spring dish.

Weekly Menu for February 22nd thru 27th

Aaahhh, Super Bowl parties are behind us, the special meals of Valentine’s Day were cooked, and with no holidays in sight you can relax and just make some regular meals.  Now after cooking 44 different meals since starting this blog I normally would be ready to start repeating some of those meals; especially since there were some very tasty meals posted.  But, in my quest to post three months of different meals before we start repeating, I have been scouring my numerous cookbooks, my binder full of recipes and my cooking magazines!  I have to say that I’ve been having fun going back and looking through older cookbooks and remembering when I made the different meals.  Usually when I get a new cookbook I tend to read it through and book mark the recipes I’m interested in making.  After I make the recipe, I date the page and leave a comment about the meal so when I look through it again I will know if the recipe was a hit or miss, if it was worth the effort to make again, etc.  It's as if I have these additional scrapbooks that conjure up past memories of food.  This week my mailbox has been overflowing with my March subscriptions and I have to say I am extra excited with what I’m seeing.  While your making next weeks menu, I’ll be testing a group of new recipes for the week of the March 1st.
How do you like the new layout?  It seemed a bit more relevant to my vision.  Don’t forget that you can now just click the title of the recipe to access it.  Throughout the week I’m sure I will continue to tweak the site as there is so much to learn about blogging successfully, which I'm guessing should be a goal for this site. Email me at mydinnerplaybook@aol.com with any suggestions, recipe ideas, or how I can take over the world with my blog, ha ha just checking that your still paying attention.  I’d love to hear from you and don’t forget about my goal of having 100 followers, sign up today and send this blog off to family, friends and strangers!   This week I'd also like some additional help, I need your “Sunday Dinner” recipes.  Let me know about the meals that invoke those special memories that not only touched the senses of smell, sight and taste; but the sense of love that you knew came with all the effort.  I would love to add them to my “Pass the Wine; I got all the time meals” section.    As always, have a fabulous week!

Quick Meal 1

This recipe was a random pop-up from the Food Network and I thought it looked easy enough to be a quick meal and a way to use a different protein this week.  While I’m sure there will be people who wouldn’t categorize it as “real” dirty rice, it is a very tasty version and you will be able to create it quick.  Personally, I felt the bell pepper was a bit overwhelming, and since our family isn’t a huge bell pepper fan I will probably omit it the next time I make it.
Quick Meal 2

This is a recipe I have had in my binder for a couple of years and one I have made on several occasions.  When searching the Kraft Foods website I found that they now offer 6 foil pack meals; foil pack meals are great because the food is always moist, it’s fast and easy and there is virtually no clean up.  The reason I like this particular one is that I get potatoes in addition to the chicken and I only need to add a veggie to have a complete meal.  Now over the years I have made a few changes from the original recipe to give it less of a Mexican flavor; I omit the Taco Bell seasoning mix, as it’s a flavor I don’t care for, I use sharp cheddar cheese and I mix 2 tbs of Mayo and a 1/4 brick of cream cheese in with the salsa of my choice before spreading it over the chicken.  Explore the different options they have to offer and decide which one will work for your family.
Got Some Time - Meal 1
I’m sure there are going to be those who say pizza is for the nights I don’t have time for anything else, or I have a favorite pizza joint that makes a pretty good pie, so I might as well dial 1-800-bringmeapizza.  I admit I also do this occasionally but I really prefer to make my own.  If I schedule it within my week then I treat it as pizza getting made for dinner.  Over the years I have tried different crusts, different techniques for a crispy crust, different sauce and so on.  So this recipe is a mash of what I think is a great pie.  The crust and technique is a recipe that came from a Parents magazine years ago but the corn meal was something I added to give it a more authentic taste.  The sauce is a blend of information I found in a Rachael Ray Magazine for the best pizza recipe; but I added spices I like to it (I have also used my sauce that I store in the freezer from my meatball and sauce recipe).  The toppings are of course your choice, but if your budget allows, try fresh mozzarella sliced on top and you will be amazed.  I’m sure that once you and your family try this recipe, you will ditch the 1-800 #.

Got Some Time - Meal 2

While I’m all for not repeating a recipe, I definitely need a burger more than once every three months.  How many of you love burgers topped with sautéed mushrooms, but hate that when you bite into the burger the mushrooms always fall out?  Well, I do so I figured out a solution, I created Bella Burgers.  You are basically adding a portobello mushroom on top of your burger so that with each bite you will get that wonderful mushroom taste.  Perfect, right?  I know that once you add the portobello mushroom on top of the patty, and then the bun and condiments you are going to end up with a really big burger to get your mouth around, so here are few suggestions. 1. Share, I usually divide my burger with my little one and we both have plenty.  2.  You can also use less ground beef and make the patties thinner, you will save $ on the grocery bill and still get a great burger with all of the taste.  3. If you follow that diet that doesn’t allow bread or pasta (which there is no way I could ever give up my pasta) you can just omit the bun and the meal will still be satisfying and filling.
Got Some Time - Meal 3
Once again I pulled a recipe from my big blue binder.  This is a recipe that has  been in there since 2004 and I have no idea who to credit for it, but whoever created it, thanks, I love it.  This is a huge family favorite and I just add some garlic bread and a side salad.  Yum!  I'm sure your family is going to love it also.
Pass the Wine; I got all the time - Meal 1

How many of your receive the Williams-Sonoma catalog?  I do and I have to say it is one of my favorites as I am a huge kitchen gadget junkie.  While this catalog boasts some very cool cooking items for sale, it also tucks some wonderful recipes inside.  I found this recipe about a year ago and it just begs to be in the “Sunday Meal” category.   I’m sure that whoever created this recipe has some wonderful family memories to share and I promise that if you take the time to make this recipe you will not be disappointed.
